After the Reds truly emphatic victory over 1. FC Kaiserslautern, which saw them break the dreaded 40-point mark with ease, Hannover 96 have decided to set themselves a new target: Breaking their club record! The decision was made during a consultation between the training staff and the squad as the club looks to maintain their fantastic form until the end of the season.

The new route

Saturday’s win over FCK saw Hannover 96 meet the season targets as they broke the 40-point barrier with 11 games to spare in the season. Theoretically this should mean that the Reds have already secured their place in the Bundesliga next year. However, for Christian Schulz and the players it was clear after the 3-0 win that the team wants to stay up near the top of the table for as long as possible instead of just settling for a mid-table position.

The discussions regarding the short-term goals for the club, decided by the Hannover board, as well as the management team, were made public on Sunday. The aim to break the 49-point record set by Dieter Hecking’s team in the 2007/2008 season.

So all they need are three more wins and they might have to think about setting their sights even higher!
