Hannover 96 will be in front of home support on the opening day of the 2011/12 Bundesliga season as they get ready to welcome 1899 Hoffenheim to the AWD-Arena in the first weekend of August (6th/7th).

At home for three of the first four matches

The officlal schedules for the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga were announced by the German Football Association (DFB) on Tuesday during a press conference in Frankfurt. Following their encounter with the Sinsheim side on Matchday 1, the Reds will travel to 1. FC Nürnberg for Matchday 2, before hosting both 1. FSV Mainz 05 and newly promoted Hertha Berlin.

The final Bundesliga Matchday before the winter break will take place on the weekend before Christmas (16th-18th), with the season kicking off again on the penultimate weekend of January (20th-22nd). The season finale will take place on Saturday 5th May, slightly earlier than normal, due to the UEFA European Championships 2012 taking place in Ukraine and Poland during the summer.

President hoping to sell-out AWD-Arena

Martin Kind, 96-managing director: “I’m assuming that the AWD-Arena will be sold out on the 1st Matchday of the season. It would be fantastic if we could start with a win over Hoffenheim, however, our focus right now is on getting a good pre-season under our belt.”

Jörg Schmadtke, 96-sporting director: “We’ll have to take it the way it’s been given to us, but a home match to kick off the season is great for our fans, who are understandably excited about the start of the new season. Naturally, we’re looking to take all three points in the season opener against Hoffenheim.”

Mirko Slomka, 96-manager: “Our first match is the perfect start for the fans. To be able to play three of our first four games at home is without a doubt a special situation. Last year we started the season with a 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. I’m hoping we can get off to another good start this season.”
