Hannover 96 captain Steven Cherundolo was back in first team training on Monday after recovering from an ankle injury he sustained in the final of the 2011 Gold Cup. After completing the training sessions on Monday and Tuesday without any problems, “Dolo” is hoping he’ll be back on the pitch in no time.

“Dolo” wants a quick comeback

The American international picked up the injury at the end of June in the USA’s defeat to Mexico in the 2011 Gold Cup final when he damaged the ligaments in his left ankle after falling awkwardly. He’s been out for a number of weeks as he recovered. He’s been undergoing individual training sessions to ease him back to full fitness, but after promising progress he’s re-joined his teammates in training on Monday.

The right-back is optimistic about being pain free again and is eager to get some match practice under his belt. Whether he will be ready for the season opener is still unknown as he obviously still lacking match sharpness. “The decision is purely for the manager to make”, explained the Reds captain.
