And we’re looking forward to meeting the Irish too. The countdown continues: just three more days until the first leg of the UEFA Europa League tie between Hannover 96 and St. Patrick’s Athletic FC, which kicks off on Thursday, August 2nd in Dublin. This is the first time that the Reds and the Irish first division team will have met, and the anticipation ahead of the encounter is huge for both sides.

The Irish are the life of the party

Ever since the European Championships in Poland and Ukraine this summer, the Irish have been considered the
life of the party in terms of football.

Travelling tips and invitations to pre-drinks

Although St. Patrick’s FC’s progression into the third qualification round against Hannover is only a few days old, there seems to be a form of fan-friendship developing between the Irish first division team and the Reds. On internet forums, and other forms of social media, the Irish fans are showing how much they are looking forward to seeing our players and our fans, as well as the two matches. Along with travelling tips and invitations to pre-drinks, the Irish supporters talk of previous experiences with Hannover 96 and our fans.

Fund-raising campaign for St. Pats fan

In particular, the fan-forum
"Das Fanmagazin" has received some good praise. When St. Pats fan Gary spoke out on an Irish fan-forum about not being able to afford a ticket for the second leg in Hannover, fans of the Reds wasted no time in starting up a fund-raising campaign for him. It wasn’t long until the cost of the trip had been covered. He couldn’t quite believe his luck: “I don't actually quite know what to say. I'm stunned to be honest with you, I'm not going to lie I'm close to tears,” the delighted fan said. A different supporter posted, “I just wanted to drop by to tell you guys that this is one of the coolest things I've ever witnessed.”

There are also numerous comments on Facebook, as well as in fan-forums, about how people are looking forward to the away match in the Tallaght Stadium. We’ve collected together a small selection of comments for you to read.

I’m looking forward to the match. The St. Pats fans are really friendly. We’re a small team, but we’re not scared of top clubs. Hertha beat us 2-0 four years ago, but we didn’t play too badly. You’re all invited to a party with the Saints!!” (Gazza Mac Giolla Bhríd)

"Dear Hannover 96 fans, we are very pleased to welcome you to Dublin in the coming weeks. Dublin is a city full of sporting teams, football in particular and during your visit to Dublin we would like to welcome you in Dalymount Park, the home of Bohemian FC for our fixture on the Friday night against Bray Wanderers, we will work to get you reduced admission to the ground and we hope to get in contact with the head of your supporters club to see if we can arrange a package, where we will be sure to offer you the finest in what Dublin has to offer on a Friday.
Please visit our forum to discuss in more detail."

"Congrats- You are welcome in Hannover!
Let's have a good match" (Kris Alack)

We’re also getting e-mails sent to us daily, such as this one:

Good evening,
my name is Joseph and I want to say as a long time St. Pats fan, a very warm welcome to your club for the Europa tie in Dublin, and also the travelling fans should make it a wonderful night for everyone involved. Along time ago in 1988, I was at the old ground for Ireland v USSR, the new stadium is fantastic, and I hope to have the pleasure of attending a game there in the future, as I may not be able to make the return, I will be keeping an eye on your club during the season.
Many thanks, Joe B.

This evening of football will certainly be an unforgettable adventure. We hope all our 96 fans have great fun with our Irish friends.
