A 1-1 draw against Wisla Krakau had to suffice for Hannover 96 in the final test of the training camp in Bad Waltersdorf, after the Polish first division side scored an equaliser in the last minute.

Huszti scores his first goal, again

The encounter began with the Reds getting used to a new bit of sports equipment. Just in time for the friendly match, UEFA Europa League opponents St. Patrick’s Athletic supplied
Hannover with the type of UMBRO ball that will be used in Thursday’s game. It gives the Bundesliga players a chance to get accustomed with the Irish ball in the coming days. It seemed that Szabolcs Huszti didn’t have any problems readjusting. The Hungarian received a pass from Christian Pander, and scored from 12 yards for a deserved 1-0 lead. Shortly afterwards, 96 got a shock, when stricken central defender Felipe was unable to continue. Mario Eggimann took his place.

Conceding late on “doesn’t knock us down”

Manager
Mirko Slomka made five changes at the start of the second half: Schulz, Schmiedebach, Rausch, Sobiech and Ya Konan replaced Pander, Andreasen, Huszti, Stindl and Abdellaoue. Four more changes for Hannover came on the hour mark. Chahed, Avevor, Hauger and Aycicek came on for Cherundolo, Haggui, da Silva Pinto and Schlaudraff. 96 managed to protect their 1-0 lead, right up until the last minute. A Krakau player was impeded in the box and Genkov despatched the resulting penalty for the equaliser, and a full time score of 1-1. However, Slomka wasn’t too downbeat with his side’s performance and reflected happily on the training camp: “We had a lot of good chances, and should have wrapped the match up earlier on. The 1-1 result doesn’t knock us down, but we would have liked to have come away with a win. We’ve worked well this week and have laid some good foundations for what will hopefully be a successful season.” The next day wasn’t a typical training session for the final day of the camp. Instead, the players went mountain biking, before heading back to Hannover.

Hannover 96:
