A special honour for our goalkeeper: Ron-Robert Zieler has been voted as Lower Saxony’s “Footballer of the Year 2014”.

Zieler is Lower Saxony’s Footballer of the Year 2014

The Lower Saxony Football Association (NFV) revealed the news on Wednesday. The Germany international was voted for by 41 of 124 Lower Saxony sport journalists. The 25-year-old finished five votes ahead of treble-winning women’s footballer Nadine Kessler of VfL Wolfsburg. “It’s a great honour, one that I’m delighted with and see as recognition of my performances,” said the 96-keeper. “I’d like to thank the journalists that voted for me.” Ron-Robert Zieler is the eleventh first-team player at the Reds to have received the award and is in fact the fourth in a row. Last year’s winner was 96-striker Mame Diouf. The NFV have held the vote since 1991.
