Hannover sign Almeida
Hugo Almedia has signed a contract with Hannover 96 after he terminated his previous contract with Russian outift Anzhi Makhachkala.
Almeida, who successfully completed a medical, has played 117 Bundesliga games for Werder Bremen, scoring 41 goals in total. The Portuguese international has also scored 36 times for Besiktas and made 57 appearances with the Portugal national team, netting 19 times. Almeida will wear the number 22 on his shirt.
Reaction to the transfer:
Hannover sporting director Martin Bader: “Hugo Almeida proved how good he is over a number of years in Bundesliga. Our coach knows him from the time they spent together at Werder Bremen.”
Hannover coach Thomas Schaaf: “I am happy that this transfer has gone through. We have seen that we lack a certain effectiveness up front and Hugo will do us good. He is a compact, important player who drives towards goal.”
New signing Hugo Almeida: “I didn't have to think about this attractive offer for long. I made my decision when I got the phone call from the coach. I have always kept an eye on the Bundesliga and it was always my desire to return one day. I want to contribute goals and good performances to Hannover.”
