"We have worked hard these past days"

In our interview with Hiroshi Kiyotake, we take a look at the painful loss to Darmstadt, the suspensions for Schulz and Sané and the upcoming game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

The second half of the season got off to an unfortunate start last Saturday against Darmstadt. We lost the game 2-1 – how did you see the game and what did not work so well?

Hiroshi: “Essentially you can say that you could see my teammates were trying to implement the ideas of the new coach. In this game you could see both the positive and the negative peculiarities in our team. We began with great momentum and scored an early goal, but after we conceded we collapsed mentally. That is our great weakness. It is important that you maintain consistency throughout a game and that you keep working to maintain a certain mental level. But from a footballing perspective I found what happened on the pitch interesting. I am already looking forward to being able to play a part again.”

On Saturday we travel to Leverkusen. A difficult game, and the stats are not in Hannover’s favour. What do you think about the game?

Hiroshi: “It will definitely not be an easy game. But what is clear is that we need points in our current situation. And we certainly have chances, so we have to approach the game with confidence that we can leave with some points. We have been working hard these past days, and I am convinced that we can leave there with some points.”

We have two players who are suspended for the game. How difficult will it be without Christian Schulz and Salif Sané?

Hiroshi: “The fact that we are missing two key players will definitely hurt us. But we have enough players to replace them who can come in and put in a performance. I am sure that they will fulfil expectations.”

Why are you so positive that we can steal the points on Saturday?

Hiroshi: “I think that a lot of it is down to motivation. As I’ve said, we have to pick up points to avoid relegation. And that is why we have to go into this game with a positive and strong attitude. In my current situation where I cannot directly help the team, I sense a good togetherness in the squad and I feel that we will get some points.”
