Milosevic arrives as Marcelo departs

Hannover 96 signed Alexander Milosevic on the final day of the winter transfer window. The 24-year-old central defender has joined on loan from Besiktas until the end of the season and will wear shirt number 24. Milosevic, who was crowned European champion with Sweden’s U21s last year, completed his medical check in Hannover today.

Going the other way, Marcelo has left Hannover 96, joining Besiktas on loan until the summer. The Turkish side have the option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

Reaction to the transfers

Sporting director Martin Bader: "After the request came from Istanbul, Marcelo made it known to us that he wanted to leave the club. We have been aware of Alexander Milosevic's qualities for a long time now, and pushed the transfer through after discussions with our coaching staff."

Head coach Thomas Schaaf: "We have followed Alexander’s progress closely, and are pleased that he has agreed to join us. He is good at starting moves from the back, is good in the air and aggressive in his tackles. His physical presence will do us good."

Alexander Milosevic: "The move to the Bundesliga and Hannover is a big challenge for me. I want to prove myself here, and establish myself in the team. Most important of all, I hope that we as a team are able to stay in the first division. I’m aware that it won’t be an easy task, but I’m very excited precisely for that reason."
