96 sign Japan international Yamaguchi
Hannover 96 have signed Japan international Hotaru Yamaguchi. The 25-year-old joins the Reds from Cerezo Osaka and will wear the number 16 shirt.
24 international caps
Yamaguchi has played 24 times for Japan, scoring one goal. He was on duty at the 2014 World Cup and 2012 Olympics. He has signed a long-term contract with Hannover. Hiroshi Kiyotake also used to play for Cerezo Osako.
Bader: "Increase competition within the squad"
“We believe that Hotaru Yamaguchi has the qualities needed to be a success in the Bundesliga. He will increase competition for places within the squad,” explained sporting director Martin Bader. “Hotaru is someone we’ve known about for a while. We’re glad to have signed him. He’ll obviously need time to settle in, but having two fellow Japan internationals in the form of Hiroshi Kiyotake and Hiroki Sakai should help.”
Yamaguchi is looking forward to the challenge of playing for Hannover 96 in the Bundesliga. “I want to take to the field and start helping the team as soon as possible. Playing alongside Kiyo here is going to be fun.”
Hotaru Yamaguchi will train with his new teammate for the first time on Monday, 4th January 2016 (10:00 CET). Ahead of the resumption of the Bundesliga season the team will undertake a winter training camp in Belek, Turkey (7th-14th January).
