Hannover 96 have been boosted by the news that midfielder Lars Stindl will sign a new contract with the club, 96 Sporting Director Jörg Schmadtke has confirmed.

The 23-year-old’s current deal at the AWD-Arena is due to expire in the summer of 2013, but he has decided to commit to a deal for an extra three years. Schmadtke made the announcement at the Tuesday evening ‘New Press’ event in Hannover, after revealing that Stindl had confirmed his intention to prolong his stay with the Reds: “This week he will sign a contract until the summer of 2016.”

Stindl has become a key part of the Hannover team since signing from Karlsruhe SC in 2010. He has been ever-present for Mirko Slomka this season, scoring six goals in 40 appearances, and was rumoured to be on the radar of Borussia Mönchengladbach, as they seek a replacement for the Schalke-bound Roman Neustädter. Stindl joins Jan Schlaudraff, Christian Pander, Emanuel Pogatetz and Manuel Schmiedebach in committing to a long-term contract at the club this season.
