On Tuesday, the German FA rejected Hannover 96's appeal for Szabolcs Huszti's yellow-red card in the home game against Werder Bremen.

Two yellow cards for the celebration

Huszti was booked twice by referee Deniz Aytekin and was therefore sent off,  after scoring the winning goal against Werder Bremen for both the removal of his jersey as well as for climbing up the railings.

After which Hannover 96 lodged an appeal with the German FA. "Two alleged offences resulted in disciplinary action, something we feel was incorrect because Huszti was not warned after the first yellow card. The aim of our appeal is to have the yellow-red rescinded and for only one of the yellow cards to count against him", explained Jörg Schmadtke, Hannover 96's sporting director.

Referee goes by the book

The German FA sports tribunal rejected Tuesday's appeal as illegitimate. "In the case at hand, there was no mistake made by the referee, in fact, he went by the book", was the vedict in the passing of the judgement. "If the referee is about to book a player, and the player commits another offence before the booking is given, one that is worthy of a booking itself, then the player must leave the field of player following two yellow cards. According to rule twelve of football a player is to be booked if he removes his shirt or if he climbs up the railings to celebrate a goal."
