Around 350 fans gathered at Hannover 96's training ground yesterday to watch the Reds first training session ahead of the 2009/2010 season.

Djakpa and Rama already on board
The fans at the training ground got their first glimpse of the Reds' new signings. Constant Djakpa and Valdet Rama looked in good condition as they were put through their paces. The first training goal of the season, which came courtesy of Mike Hanke, was greeted by warm applause from the 350 spectators present, and 96 sporting director Jörg Schmadtke pronounced himself to be very happuy with the turnout: "It is excellent that there is already so much interest. And we hope to be able to pay it back."

Alongside Constant Djakpa and Valdet Rama, Sofien Chahed was part of the session having been handed a professional contract last season, as was reserves player Manuel Schmiedebach. But one of the biggest positives of the day was the number of players who had struggled with injuries last year that were able to train without difficulty. Manager Dieter Hecking was particularly pleased that this was the case: "In Jan Rosenthal, Vinicus, Jan Schlaudraff, Steven Cherundolo and Altin Lala we effectively have a number of new signings. Their desire to play was very evident today."

Internationals still away
Dieter Hecking was happy with his players in the 90 minute session: "It was a positive start, even though our internationals are still away. The players who have been carrying knocks should be 100% come the start of the season. My biggest wish is that we can have an injury-free squad for a long period of time. That will be a massive help."

Hannover's internationals Mikael Forssell, Karim Haggui, Robert Enke, Florian Fromlowitz and Jacek Krzynówek all missed yesterday's training session. Hanno Balitsch, Leon Andreasen and Christian Schulz took part in some light training following their knocks, while Altin Lala also had a quick run-out. This morning the players undertook the obligatory fitness test, and their next session is at 4pm. Steven Cherundolo has missed all this as he flies out to meet his USA colleagues and take part in the Gold Cup.
