Some news on the Reds' two long-term absentees: There is some light at the end of the tunnel for Jan Schlaudraff, but it now looks like Danish midfielder Leon Andreasen won't play again in 2009.

Rehab with the national side
On Wednesday Jan Schlaudraff moved from Donaustauf to follow his physiotherapist Klaus Eder to Cologne, where Eder will also be working with the Germany national side. There he will continue to work on his intensive individual programme. Schlaudraff will remain with the national set-up next week, as they travel to Hannover for their international against Azerbaijan on Wednesday.

Cautious optimism
The cause of Schlaudraff's problems has been discovered to have been a nerve in his back. That must be addressed first, before he can begin to work on building up muscle again. 96 sporting director Jörg Schmadtke believes the striker will be back in action in around eight weeks.

Still a long way off
The 96 team will be without Leon Andreasen when the Bundesliga kicks off again after the winter break. After numerous tests and operations it now seems that the inflammation he was suffering in his groin has also been affecting his pubic bone, although he is yet to receive final diagnosis. So the Dane will be at the doctors for the next few weeks before he can launch into his rehabilitation programme.

We wish both players a quick recovery!
