Off to the Baltic Sea! The draw for the first round of the DFB Pokal 2011/12 has been completed and Hannover 96 have been paired up with lower league side FC Anker Wismar. Timo Lange’s side are not an unknown team for the Reds as they faced each other in a pre-season friendly back in 2009.

A trip to Wismar!

Hannover 96 might be facing the prospect of travelling to the likes of Bucharest and Rome later this season, but the first round of the DFB Pokal has handed them a tie a little closer to home against FC Anker Wismar. They managed to avoid the likes of Tennis Borussia Berlin and BFC Dynamo and will instead meet the team from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in between 29th July and 1st August. The exact dates will be confirmed closer to the dates. This will not be the first time these two teams have met either as they faced off against one another in a 2009 friendly match. On that occasion Wismar emerged victorious courtesy of a 2-1 win, coupled with last year’s dismal performance in this competition, the Reds certainly have a point to prove.

Good luck to our Reds in their first competitive match of the 2011/2012 season!
