NIEMALSALLEIN

The end of the season doesn’t just mean time for Mirko Slomka and his staff to analyse. It also means a closer look into the stats for the season. Who played the most games? Who won the most tackles? Who has the highest passing rate? These questions and more will be answered in a three part statistics review of the Hannover 96 season. Part two looks at the best tackle rate, fouls and the total number of cards.

The most tackles

On the whole, it tends to be the defensive players who have the most tackles in a season. Mame Diouf proves this statistic to be wrong though, leading the Hannover side in tackles with 285. The “first defender” engaged in the transitional part of football, where the attackers started the defensive motion. The same could be said for third-placed Didier Ya Konan, who managed eight fewer tackles than the second-placed Sergio da Silva Pinto (232). In fourth and fifth were both defensive players Karim Haggui (219) and Christian Schulz (202).

1) Mame Diouf: 285 tackles
2) Sergio da Silva Pinto: 232 tackles
3) Didier Ya Konan: 224 tackles
4) Karim Haggui: 219 tackles
5) Christian Schulz: 202 tackles

Highest tackle percentage

It’s not the quantity that matters but more often the quality. Bearing this mind, the highest tackle percentage rate makes sense. With 65,35% the recently departed Mario Eggimann took the top spot. Narrowly behind him is Johan Djourou (64,11%) and Karim Haggui (63,11%). Captain Steven Cherundolo also achieved a high total in fourth with Christian Schulz in fifth.

1) Mario Eggimann: 65,35%
2) Johan Djourou: 64,11%
3) Karim Haggui: 63,11%
4) Steven Cherundolo: 59,26%
5) Christian Schulz: 53,16%

Average tackles per game

Considering the Reds had to deal with a number of injuries this season, the average tackles per game were naturally affected. With 10,63 tackles per game, the defensive all-rounder Christian Schulz took top spot. Second was Lars Stindl, showing he isn’t just a technically gifted player, but also has a strong defensive side to his game. In third was Mame Diouf with Karim Haggui and Steven Cherundolo completing the top five.

1) Christian Schulz: 10,63 tackles
2) Lars Stindl: 10,50 tackles
3) Mame Diouf: 10,18 tackles
4) Karim Haggui: 9,95 tackles
5) Steven Cherundolo: 9,60 tackles

Leads the average number of tackles per game: Christian Schulz battles with Robert Lewandowski.

Moust fouls committed

The fact that the tackles of the 96-players didn’t always go to plan can be supported by the following statistic: In total, Hannover committed 527 fouls which is an average of 15,5 fouls per game. In the league comparison, it left Hannover in eighth spot overall. Internally, Didier Ya Konan was at the top of the list with 52, followed by Mame Diouf with 50. Serigo da Silva Pinto gave away 48, Christian Schulz 40.

1) Didier Ya Konan: 52 fouls
2) Mame Diouf: 50 fouls
3) Szabolcs Huszti: 49 fouls
4) Sergio da Silva Pinto: 48 fouls
5) Christian Schulz: 40 fouls

Card stats

Finally, here’s a look at the card statistics for the season. Leading the way is Sergio da Silva Pinto with six yellow cards and a yellow-red. This brings him a total of nine points. The points system is as follows: A yellow card is worth one point, a yellow-red is worth three and a straight red is worth five. Second spot fell to Szabolcs Huszti (seven points), who picked up four yellows and a controversial yellow-red. Equal second was Christian Schulz, who also picked four yellows and a yellow-red against Mainz. Karim Haggui, Lars Stindl and Mame Diouf all picked up six yellows, leaving them in joint third.

1) Sergio da Silva Pinto: 6 yellow cards | 1 yellow-red | 0 red | 9 points
2) Szabolcs Huszti: 4 yellow cards | 1 yellow-red | 0 red | 7 points
2) Christian Schulz: 4 yellow cards | 1 yellow-red | 0 red | 7 points
3) Karim Haggui: 6 yellow cards | 0 yellow-red | 0 red | 6 points
3) Lars Stindl: 6 yellow cards | 0 yellow-red | 0 red | 6 points
3) Mame Diouf: 6 yellow cards | 0 yellow-red | 0 red | 6 points
4) Sébastien Pocognoli: 0 yellow cards | 0 yellow-red | 1 red | 5 points
4) Manuel Schmiedebach: 5 yellow cards | 0 yellow-red | 0 red | 5 points
4) André Hoffmann: 5 yellow cards | 0 yellow-red | 0 red | 5 points

5) Didier Ya Konan: 4 yellow cards | 0 yellow-red | 0 red | 4 points
5) Johan Djourou: 4 yellow cards | 0 yellow-red | 0 red | 4 points

The next part of the series will reveal the pass success rate, the most touches and the most successful in front of goal.
