Hannover 96 have parted ways with their manager Dieter Hecking with immediate effect. After extensive discussions with president Martin Kind and sporting director Jörg Schmadtke which looked at the club's current status in the Bundesliga, Hecking offered his resignation, which was accepted.

A successful fresh start
"This development is a huge blow for me," Kind said. "I got to know Hecking as a very special person and coach. We were hoping for a successful fresh start after a difficult season last year. Unfortunately that didn't work out. But we have to remember that Dieter Hecking and Hannover 96 did a great job together in the past three years."

Best finish since return to Bundesliga

Dieter Hecking moved to Hannover 96 three years ago, securing the club's Bundesliga status before leading the Reds to eighth place in 2007/2008, their best finish since returning to the top flight in 2002. However last season Hannover dropped back, finishing in 11th place.
