Hannover had nine players on duty for their countries during the week. Find out here how they fared.

Dolo helps end 78 years of hurt

Perhaps the pick of the results was enjoyed by the USA as they recorded a stunning 1-0 win over Italy in Genoa, ending a run of 78 years without a win over the four-time World Cup winners. Jürgen Klinsmann’s team prevailed by a single goal scored by Fulham FC striker Clint Dempsey, but Hannover’s captain Steven Cherundolo gave an equally praiseworthy performance.

Tunisia and Ivory Coast draw

Two more Hannover defender Sofian Chahed and Karim Haggui were in the Tunisia team that started their game against Peru. Unfortunately for Chahed, he had to be taken off after just 32 minutes after receiving a blow to his jaw. Haggui was able to complete the 90 minutes. The game ended in a 1-1 draw. Didier Ya Konan also featured for Ivory Coast in their 0-0 draw with Guinea, coming on as a 69th minute substitute. Mohammed Abdellaoue played 45 minutes for Norway as they defeated Northern 3-0 Ireland in Belfast. He failed to get on the scoresheet.

Royer and Gökdemir notch

Midfielder Daniel Royer scored his side’s first goal as Austria U21s ran out 2-1 winners over Switzerland, while Samuel Radlinger also played in the game. Ali Gökdemir featured for Azerbaijan U21s against Iceland and scored the winning goal just before half time, taking his side closer to qualification for the European Championships in 2013. Finally, defender Christopher Avevor was unable to prevent Germany’s U20s team falling to a 4-3 defeat to Italy.
