The Japanese Football association (JFA) named their squad for the Asian Cup (9th-31st January 2015) today. 96 midfielder Hiroshi Kiyotake has been selected for the tournament, which takes place in Australia. Right back Hiroki Sakai was unselected for the tournament.

 

Total of seven Bundesliga stars
Alongside Kiyotake, six further Bundesliga players were selected for Japan's squad: Atsudo Uchida (Schalke 04), Gotoku Sakai (VfB Stuttgart), Makoto Hasebe (Eintracht Frankfurt), Shinji Kagawa (Borussia Dortmund), Shinji Okazaki (Mainz 05) and Takashi Inui (Eintracht Frankfurt).

Japan are in Group D alongside Jordan, Palestine and Iraq. Japan, defending champions, play their first game against Palestine on 12th January. Consequently, Kiyotake will miss the start of the second half of the season.
